My first reaction when I saw the neatly lined up boxes sitting on the table at the store was to smirk, roll my eyes a bit, and laugh...maybe even a tad "out loud".
Snuggies. What a joke. It's a blanket...with sleeves. How ridiculous.
But then I started thinking about it.
My parents keep their house at a rather low temperature. My mom likes to work on various projects on her laptop. Cold...Mom...Cold...Mom...Snuggie???
It could work.
I picked up one of the boxes and looked beyond the bright blazing red "As Seen on TV" sticker.
Sure, it looked dorky. And it might be a gift only an octogenarian would include on their Wish List. But it could be practical. And my mom does so love a practical gift.
Ten minutes later...
The Snuggie was mine. Blue. Snuggly. Practical. My smirk had changed into a smirk of pride; I had found the perfect gift for my mom.
Then I made the mistake of texting my sister: "I got Mom a Snuggie for Christmas. Do you think she'll love it?"
The answer was immediate. "No. She won't."
Well, sheesh! Don't even think about it or anything.
My Christmas cheer crushed, I called to see if this was one of those joking sister texts or save-yourself-before-you-get-too-deep texts.
She said "hello". I skipped the pleasantries and said, "You really don't think she'll like it?"
"Nope."
"Well how do you know?"
"She's sitting right next to me. I asked her. She says she wouldn't like it."
Snuggie. A gift not even a mother could love.
Hating the idea of
The only person I could think of is a family member who is above a certain unspoken age and still not married. But I just can't. I can't give it to her. I might as well stick a cat or two in the pockets of the thing and label her as forever lost to singlehood. I can't be responsible for that.
Who else could use a Snuggie???
At 2:30 am this morning, it came to me.
A blogger! A blogger could use a Snuggie. Not only to keep their arms warm, but their wit as well. I can just hear the creative posts spouting forth from the blogger who dons a blanket...with sleeves.
Here it is. I am hosting a giveaway. For one brand-new, in the box, color blue Snuggie. No strings attached. Only sleeves.

Merry Christmas Bloggy Buddies!
I don't even know where to go with my comment! I'm so glad your sister (and mom) saved you from the embarrassment of giving a Snuggie! You can totally blame that on pregnancy brain, you know.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, that is the perfect white elephant gift, and we all need one of those laying around.
Sorry sister, I think I might feel like I was being smoothered to death if I put one of those on! I'm a little claustrophobic. I'll stick with the old fashioned way - a plain old blanket!:)
ReplyDeleteP. S. I wanted to comment, but don't put me in the drawing!:) Good luck!
Cory has a snuggie. Yes...my husband bought himself a snuggie. He thinks he is soooooo hot when he wears it. It just makes me giggle every time. And, snuggies do make you hotter. Have you seen my husband...wooosh.!!!! So I hope I win so I can be just as cool and hot as him.
ReplyDeleteI was with my mom at Joanns a month or two back and saw a pattern for a snuggie and I had it, very excited for our soon to be matching pajamas as a family, all snuggie style. I excitedly found my mom and showed her my amazing idea, and she said... "don't do that... those things are stupid". haha I guess two great moms think alike. But I still want one! Good giveaway!
ReplyDelete:-) I love mine! for $10 it's cheaper than making your own - and a blanket is just not as cozy. If you're like me and feel freezing when it's 70* outside - get a snuggie! Ellie has a Disney princess one under the tree!

I have to finish my comment:
ReplyDeletethe ads are hilariously awful - so awful that they are amazingly awesome! :-)
You know, I had the same thoughts/reactions as you. Then the other night, sitting in our chilly basement, I was reading a book and got irritated that I had to keep pulling my hand out of the warm blanket to turn the page. If only the blanket had, like, SLEEVES or something......
ReplyDeleteSuperman would tease me mercilessly, but I think a snuggie would be a great thing for me.
been a follower for awhile...
ReplyDeleteand it's a gift not even a mother could love, because if your mother DID love it, then you wouldn't be having this giveaway & i want your snuggie!
i'm having my 3rd brain surgery in 24 months on thursday, 12/16, and would love to have it for snuggling downstairs on the couch with my laptop to recuperate once i'm out of the hospital. :-)

Well, if it had been leopard print I would be all over it. But, it's just blue...
ReplyDeleteAh, what the hay! I can make concessions for a prize as awesome as a Snuggie!
Sign me up!
Yeah, well...I actually DID buy one for my friend for Christmas last year. She loves it. It'z leopard print. SO THERE! LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it!!! You are so hilarious Evelyn! My brothers love to make fun of these... and I'd love to give one to them! :)
ReplyDeleteEither that or give it to my hubby so he'll stop stealing my super soft blanket! :)
Oh... and of course I follow you!
Wow - what a great idea - Snuggie and blogging. There are many a nights I sit glazed over at my computer, typing and freezing - trying to wrap a blanket around myself. Who knows it may work.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just hate it when people ruin your thunder... espeically sissters! I bet your mama would have used it, only she probably wouldn't admit it! I got my daughter a pink one last year for her Birthday. She loved it. Although, now she hardly ever uses it.
ReplyDeleteOh, let it be written - I am not commenting to enter the contest, but just to say I think Michelle should get it.
ReplyDeleteI spend my evenings sitting at my computer doing my transcription work and freezing. I'm usually wearing 2 shirts and a sweater with a blanket on my lap! A Snuggie, though I think they are kind of tacky, might actually be helpful to me! Then I wouldn't have to wear the sweater and I wouldn't have to carry my blanket around the house.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Your story made me giggle. Good thing you texted your sister!
Ok...I'm already a follower. (Score one point)
ReplyDeleteI have posted about this stupid idea of a gift last year. I still can't imagine ANYONE wanting to invest in this idea but when you said cold and laptop I had an epiphany (that is TOTALLY misspelled isn't it?). I thought...that's me! I'm always working at my laptop and FREEZING. Maybe it could benefit me in some way so I'm gonna give it a try. It's free. Let me just say that I refuse to buy one though.
So there ya go. Good luck to me. =)
I got Ezzy one for Christmas last year and she loves it still! I think that it would be fun to have (no more fussing with the blanket while I am trying to read or be on the computer), but being mommy I never by things for myself. This would be fun to win. :)
ReplyDeleteHa! Love this post! You know what would be really hilarious? If your mom ends up with one sometime in the future and LOVES it. I do have to admit it does look like a weird gift. We bought one for a friend as a gag and they ended up liking it. I think I might like to try it. :) I am a follower.:)
ReplyDeleteHmm, never really wanted one, but I suppose if it's free. Perhaps I could cutify the thing and then I'd love it. It is particularly cold here in South Dakota, so--what the heck, I'm game! :)
